The client and the context
The City of Agrigento, located in Sicily, is actively engaged in promoting environmental sustainability and redevelopment of the city through innovative projects. The city is famous for its cultural and scenic heritage, including the Valley of the Temples with its Doric triumph, which is why it is an essential destination on the Grand Tour.
The City of Agrigento has chosen to partner with tmr to implement a sustainable bike sharing system called Akrabike. This initiative aims to promote alternative and green mobility for citizens by reducing private vehicle use and carbon emissions, encouraging worker travel through soft mobility.
The goal
In 2023, the goal of the City of Agrigento was to offer citizens an eco-friendly transportation system, improving urban mobility and environmental quality. The introduction of tmr’s Agrigento Bike Sharing was a key solution to achieving this goal by providing a sustainable and accessible transportation alternative.
The tmr solution
tmr, a leader in sustainable mobility, has provided the City of Agrigento with a bike sharing solution with 5 stations divided between the center and the coast.
This system allows citizens to rent pedal-assisted bicycles, providing a convenient, environmentally friendly and efficient way to get around the city. Agrigento’s bike share stations, equipped with a total of 60 pedal-assisted stalls, are strategically placed to cover major areas of the municipality. Each station also serves as a charging point for bicycles, ensuring that they are always ready for use.
Thanks to theyouMove® app, available for free in the Apple Store and Google Play Store, citizens of Agrigento can access the bike-sharing service, check the availability of bikes at stations and book them quickly and easily.
