"We have been able to transform a European project initially aimed at a restricted audience, that of cargo bike operators in the historic center, into an initiative that is open to everyone. Anyone, in fact, will be able to take advantage of the cargo bikes for deliveries and fast transportation in the historic center: citizens, including those not resident in the City of Lucca, merchants, artisans, as well as tourists and visitors. It will be possible to circulate with a green and non-polluting vehicle."

The client and the context
The City of Lucca is a renowned city located in Tuscany, Italy. It is famous for its ancient medieval walls, its well-preserved old town and its vibrant culture. The City is actively engaged in promoting environmental sustainability and finding innovative solutions for urban mobility.
Lucca chose to partner with tmr to introduce a sustainable freight transport solution using cargo bikes, funded by the European Union under the Life program. This initiative is part of the municipality’s strategy to promote sustainable mobility and improve delivery efficiency in the city, particularly in the historic center.
The goal
In 2019, the goal of the City of Lucca was to introduce a sustainable and efficient freight transportation system that would reduce environmental impact and city traffic. Thanks to the cargo bikes provided by tmr, the municipality is now able to offer an eco-friendly goods delivery service, while improving the quality of life for citizens in the downtown area.
The tmr solution
tmr, a navigated reality in the field of sustainable mobility, has provided the City of Lucca with cargo bikes as a freight transport solution. Cargo bikes are specially designed bicycles with cargo space to transport goods efficiently and with low environmental impact. This sustainable transportation system is ideal for light goods and package deliveries within the historic center of Lucca, helping to reduce traffic and carbon emissions.
In the course of collaboration with tmr, the City of Lucca has successfully implemented cargo bike service. These bicycles have been integrated into the City’s logistics system, enabling fast and timely deliveries, equipped with a box that opens via the youMove® app. The cargo bikes have been equipped with security systems and tracking devices to ensure reliable and safe service, in total, there are 3 stations with 9 cargo bikes, part muscle and part pedal-assisted.
